Jacqui Dankworth Quintet

St Marys Arts Centre, Strand St, Sandwich
Date(s):
Saturday 10th March 2012
Time:
19:00 - 22:30
John Dankworth was perhaps the UKs best known and loved jazz musicians. As well as being an iconic, world-renowned composer and arranger, he was also a prolific performer who played on hundreds of recordings throughout the course of his long and distinguished career. Given her musical pedigree; daughter of Cleo Laine and the late John Dankworth, it is no surprise that Jacqui Dankworth is considered to be “one of the classiest acts in British jazz singing” * Her highly acclaimed recordings, to date, have been stylistically diverse, incorporating elements of folk, blues, and many other musical forms, that have also demonstrated her superb skill as a songwriter. On her latest album, It Happens Quietly, Jacqui has collaborated with, and lovingly dedicated this CD to, her father. Accompanied by brother and bassist Alec Dankworth, and saxophonist Tim Garland, Jacqui’s performance is characteristically amazing throughout. Continuing to make an enormous impression wherever she performs, either with her own band or touring with other prestigious musicians, such as the Brodsky Quartet. From Ronnie Scott’s and the Royal Festival Hall in London to The Jazz Bakery in Los Angeles, Jacqui has been wowing packed houses at major international festivals and other venues worldwide.
